Educational Technology 2: Lesson 1, Reflection 1, 2 and 3

When it comes to educational technology advancement, the First World country schools are so fortunate compared to the developing country, Philippines. They are blessed in a way that they are the main source of technology because most of the great scientist, who keeps on inventing or making a new product comes from their country. So basically speaking, the computer and other forms of technology are part of their living already and it is expected that most of the schools and students in all levels have computers which could be used to assist the learning. On the other hand, Philippine schools are having scarcity when it comes to technology especially in rural areas. Technologies are actually well-known to us but not all are able to use any of those because of poverty. Although, there are still those well-off people or school who can exploit it and they are lucky because there is something which can help them in their studies.

Philippines may have scarcity in resources but that doesn’t mean we will let that barrier impede or block us in our learning. There are still plenty of traditional media that can still be used for effective learning in rural areas schools such as chalkboard, model, newspaper, games, tableau, role playing, puppets and etc. that don’t entail heavy materials in making. They can use model for the substitution of a thing that is impossible to bring in the classroom, like the building of Ayala Mall. Role playing only requires the participation of the students; they may not use props anymore provided that the message or the topic will be well-delivered. In puppets, they can use recycled materials.

It is true that most of the students used the computer for playing games only and they’ve taken for granted by now on what’s the real use of computer. Learner can best use the computer as it may be available in schools or at home through searching the assignments, answering the given activities, making the projects, working on the research and studying the lessons. They can search it all via Google, Wikipedia, etc. or any reliable websites where they can find the answers. Even without using the internet, they can as well as use the Microsoft Office for their projects and assignments. Hence, they can the computer in many ways.
